Just the other week I was lucky enough to be able to take a trip to the wonderful village of Villeta. Just an hour and a half ride outside of the city, Villeta is a nice change from the busy city life and the colder climate of Bogota.
As I mentioned in a previous post (Bogota) one of best parts about Bogota is the towns that surround the city. Bogota is 8,675 feet above sea level, and if you leave the city you start to go down the mountains and lower and lower in altitude. Well… as Colombia is so close to the equator, when you go down to a lower altitude .. it starts to get warmer and warmer. So that means you can drive just a few hours outside of the city and arrive to a much warmer climate. And that’s exactly what you find in the village of Villeta.
The warmth of Villeta was a very welcome change. Anyone who knows me knows that I am a huge lover of warm weather and summer months. Well being as Bogota doesn’t really have seasons, beaches or warm weather, a day trip to some nice hot weather was exactly what I needed. We only spent the day in Villeta, so we didn’t do too much, but I enjoyed every moment of my time there.
The highlight of the trip was by far a ride we took through the lush jungles on a open air “train”. It felt like a rollercoaster. Flying through the jungle on this train had me feeling like a little kid again. Check out the videos below to see what it was like!
The icing on the cake for a perfect day was this beautiful rainbow we saw on the ride home!
